Recently the UK Gambling Commission made a statement that they saw Bitcoin no differently to other currencies when it comes to making gambling payments. Since then we have been waiting to see which of the UK licensed casinos and sportsbooks would be first to welcome Bitcoin payments.
Today we got the answer – NetBet.
The announcement came via BitPay, a respected payment service provider and wallet host who also work with big names including PayPal, Zynga and Shopify. Not only are they pleased to welcome NetBet on board, they use the press release to let other iGaming providers know that they are ready and waiting to discuss implementation!
As a Bitcoin user I think this is excellent news… taking gambling outside of the reach of financial institutions (and their hefty fees) is a big positive. At the same time I do understand that there is a barrier for some people – with Bitcoin looking like a complex and technical thing from the outside.
I have gone into a lot of detail (in the context of poker) on my other site Sit and Go Planet. You’ll find a step-by-step guide to getting a wallet, funding it and using it for poker deposits in my Ultimate Guide to Bitcoin Poker Deposits. Exactly the same process applies whether you are using this for poker, casino or sports betting.
About NetBet Casino and Sportsbook
For those not familiar, NetBet are a big and long running brand which used to be known as Poker770 (and Casino770 and so on). They have now been online for more than a decade, and have a solid reputation for their quick payments as well as their platform.
The casino is primarily PlayTech based, though you’ll find a lot of slots there from all of the major game makers. These include a dedicated ‘Vegas’ section which has a separate bonus offer. You can also find live dealer table games (from Evolution Gaming), and a big choice of regular table games too.
You’ll get 25 free spins along with your first deposit bonus – and I also recommend keeping a close eye on the NetBet promos list (always something worthwhile there). See www.netbet.co.uk for more.
The sportsbook uses the PlayTech platform and has a focus on football (soccer). The amount of matches always amazes me, as well as the depth of markets (number of different ways you can bet on the biggest matches). You will also find a huge horse racing section and long list of alternative sports including F1, golf, tennis, rugby and more.
Poker was not included in the press release – though I am pretty sure that this was just to save space rather than this being excluded from Bitcoin deposits… this room is on the iPoker Network. This network is famous for all the fishy players which mainly come over from the casino and sportsbook sections of this site and the many other big gambling brands which share the network.
Other Bitcoin Casinos and Sportsbooks
While NetBet is the first UK licensed site to welcome Bitcoin payments, there are plenty of sites located offshore in the Caribbean or Central America which already welcome this. Examples include BetOnline (a reputable US friendly brand based in Panama) and Ignition Casino (which recently took over the poker room from Bovada).
