Detailed Review of the US Friendly InterTops Poker on the Horizon Poker Network
InterTops were once a bigger brand in the US than today. They were forced to pull out for a while due to the shifting legal situation – and have now returned with a boutique poker room (and of course their famous sportsbook!).
This site is part of the ‘Horizon Poker Network’, which was recently renamed from the Revolution Poker Network. The network allows a group of smaller sites to pool together their players in a common back end, allowing more tables and bigger tournaments than if they went it alone.
You’ll find easy and relaxed games, generous rewards and the chance to win prizes of entry to live tournament events in the Caribbean and Europe at InterTops. US players are welcomed, though I should also add that players from around the world can also enjoy the games.
Money Talks – How Do InterTops Poker Reward Players?
Things start off with a very generous poker bonus at InterTops. For every $20 you deposit (that is the minimum), you will get $40 in bonus cash – that’s a 200% match. There is a bonus code to claim this – IPT1000 (InterTops Poker 1000, since $1000 is the maximum bonus).
This bonus gets released into your account in $5 increments, you’ll need to collect just over 83 loyalty points at the tables for each point.
Those points do not only count towards your welcome bonus. They also factor into your loyalty rewards. There are 50 levels to climb through, with increasingly big rewards and faster collection of future points. What I like about this scheme is that you can take time out without slipping back down the levels. Unlike other poker sites you need to keep up your total only every 2 months to maintain your current benefits. You can see the rewards schedule over at www.intertops.com.
There are plenty of other ways in which InterTops poker will reward you. The gold chips and gold cards are just the start. You’ll be offered reload bonuses if your account does go dry, free tournament entries every week and many one-off promotions which change every week. I recommend you keep an eye on their website for the latest deals.
InterTops Poker 2017 – Software, Navigation and Game Selection
This is not the biggest poker site, during the day you can expect up to 10 cash game tables and in the evenings maybe twice that. These are focused on NL Holdem, with a choice up to 50c / $1 blinds and a few tables above this. The action is split between 6 max and full-ring. Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo are also spread, though the selection of games is limited.
One big positive about the games at InterTops – your opponents will mostly be regular (as in recreational / amateur poker enthusiasts) players, and not the multi-tabling grinder types you find at some bigger sites. This does keep the games both easy to beat and sometimes social too.
Tournaments are 30 to 50 players max, again the focus in on the smaller buy-ins. There is a bit of a ‘chicken and egg’ going on with the size of the site at the moment. As they grow it will be possible to add more tournaments with bigger prize pools, which will attract more players (creating a cycle). As things stand it is hard to get the momentum needed for a lot of tournaments. Sit N Goes and satellite qualifiers to live events can both be found at this site.
The software is a lot better than some US friendly rivals’. If anyone remembers, this came from the old Cake Poker Network (which then became the Revolution Network before becoming Horizon). While the graphics are a little on the aged side, this is a very smooth playing client – and very easy to navigate around… of course, the smaller number of games makes this even easier!
Banking – Getting Money in and Out
In order for the offshore US poker sites to operate, they need to be good at handling money. Quick and easy cash outs was one area that InterTops has always had a strong reputation for.
The best way to get your money on board is with your Visa Credit card. You’ll need to be able to make international purchases, and occasionally the payment gateways will block these transactions – though most of the time your deposit will get straight through. There are several alternative deposit options including prepaid cards and money transfer services. You will need to order a paper check to withdraw, these are readily accepted by banks.
Outside of the US, many more deposit and withdrawal options open up, including the popular eWallets like Skrill and Neteller.
InterTops Poker – Summing Up / Next Steps
I am expecting to hear a lot more from InterTops and the Horizon poker network. This may be a smaller outfit at the moment, though they have the brand, the experience and the software in place to make this into a solid operation.
The 200% welcome bonus is a great place to start, and you’ll find the games both social and easy to beat.
