Detailed Review of Red Kings Poker on the NYX Poker Network
NYX used to be known as the OnGame Poker Network, and has been around since the start of the online poker boom more than 10 years ago. What makes Red Kings Poker a unique site is their pioneering efforts to become Mac Compatible and to offer Mobile Poker. While these things are now standard, back in the mid 2000’s this was not the case! There are some current reasons to check out this smaller (or should I say ‘boutique’) poker network. These include their own live / online hybrid poker series, plenty of soft poker action and software which certainly impresses compared to even their biggest rivals.
Red Kings Poker have a unique extra bonus, which is triggered the first time you get dealt the two red kings (king or hearts + diamonds together) in a cash game. If you win the hand you’ll get a €300 extra bonus, if you lose then this goes up to €500!
Let’s Talk Money – Bonuses, Promotions and Loyalty Rewards at Red Kings Poker
Instead of a single ‘one size fits all’ bonus for new players, Red Kings give you the choice of 6 different bonuses. These are all at a 100% match, and range from €250 and lower all the way to €2000. The twist is that the smaller bonuses are a lot faster and easier to clear. As long as you are realistic, you should be able to get a nice boost to your initial deposit (and take part in any depositors freerolls and the ‘fishmarket’ tournament when this is running).
To claim each bonus you will need to use a poker bonus code, here is the format:
SNG250 (100% up to €250)
SNG500 (up to €500)
SNG1000 (up to €1000) and so on.
The special bonus for red kings mentioned above will come into play regardless of which of these welcome bonuses you choose. New players looking for software tools can also get a copy of ‘Holdem Manager 2 pro’ with their first deposit, check the left hand side menu of the poker section for more on this.
Ongoing Rewards: Once you are playing, there are 3 ways in which the rewards will continue.
First up there are weekly leaderboards based on the volume of play. The top 50 players each week get prizes, and with this being a smaller site, you’ll find it relatively easy to make the cut.
Second, instant rewards – cash bonuses for hitting certain starting hands add an entertaining (and sometimes profitable!) element to the games.
My VIP: This is a regular loyalty scheme where you collect points (called crowns) for real money play, I recommend you check out the special shop to see what those crowns will get you!
Software, Navigation and Game Selection
What I like about the software is that it is still recognizable in look and feel from the early ‘OnGame’ times (when Poker Room was a big player!), though the speed and setup now has a very much up to date interface. The primary colour is red, and the big bold buttons and selection tabs make navigating through the games a breeze. Keep in mind that this is a smaller poker room – think 300 cash game players at peaks, rather than the 1000’s of the giant sites. This does make keeping the navigation simple.
Unusually, there are dedicated apps for Android and iPhones.
You’ll find the action centred around NL Holdem with 6 max, 9 max and heads-up tables. There is some PLO too, though only a few tables outside of peaks (which are European evenings). The standard of play is recreational, not as crazy as some sites – though with noticeably fewer pro grinder types than (for example) at PokerStars.
Tournaments are lower buy-in, and with fields of 50 to 150 common these are a lot more manageable than the ‘mega fields’ you get at the big site. When it runs, I recommend joining the ‘Fishmarket!’ game, this is a €11 buy-in which all new players get free entry too, meaning a big game with lots of novice action! There is also an NYX Poker series, which is a tournament event, plus a bigger schedule for Sundays.
The Grand Series of Poker is now in it’s 6th season. This is a live poker tour with stops around Europe (particularly the Mediterranian). You can win seats in those games + travel expenses online. There is also an online component, with occasional bigger buy-in online tournaments with larger guaranteed prize pools.
Banking at Red Kings – Deposits and Withdrawals
This is a non-US site, and so not subject to any banking restrictions. Deposits with Visa or MasterCard will sail through first time, and the usual range of eWallets (Skrill, Neteller etc) are also welcomed.
Red Kings have been around for a long time and have never had any issues or scandals with payments. This is as trusted a site as you’ll find anywhere online!
Red Kings Poker Review 2016 – Summary / Next Steps
You might want to say ‘smaller’ poker site, though I think that ‘boutique’ fits better. Everything about this operator is solid and smooth, with easy payments, a choice of bonuses, that extra red kings bonus and a great selection of poker games and tournaments.
I recommend Red Kings to players looking for an escape from the hordes of multi-tabling pro grinders. This is the kind of room where you can relax, enjoy the poker and (hopefully) come away with a profit or even an entry to one of the Grand Series of Poker live events!
