Types of Sportsbook BonusIn the competitive world of sports betting sites will strive to get as much custom as they possibly can, and they’ll achieve this by offering bonuses both to entice players to sign up and to ensure existing players keep using the site.

With just a little planning, you can take advantage of these bonuses to give your profits a boost. This article cover the basic types of bonuses so that you know what to look out for. Once you know how each one works, you can take full advantage, before moving on to the next bookie and topping up your profits once again.

Initial Deposit Bonuses or Sign-Up Bonuses at Sportsbooks

These are bonuses that are offered to new users of a site. In the majority of cases you’ll receive a percentage of the initial deposit in bonus money. This bonus amount will usually be somewhere between 10% and 100% of the deposit. However, although the money is immediately credited to your account, the money is not actually yours yet – meaning that you’ll not be able to withdraw these bonus funds. To withdraw you’ll have to meet the rollover requirement - this being the number of times that you have to wager the total amount of both your initial deposit and the bonus funds.

For example, you might make a £100 deposit at a site which offers a 50% initial deposit bonus with a 4x rollover. This means that you’ll have to wager £600 (£150 x 4) at the site before the funds are actually yours.

No Deposit Bonus

Occasionally you’ll find a site that allows you to gamble for money without actually depositing any funds to the site. These no deposit bonuses will generally be very small – it would be surprising to see this type of bonus exceed £15/$20. Additionally, the rollover requirement for this bonus type will usually be much larger than others.

Free Bet Bonus

This is where a site will offer you a free bet based upon the size of your initial deposit – usually a matched bet meaning that it will be the full 100% of your deposit size. This free bet will not usually include the stake, so if you were to deposit £30 for example and back an even money shot, you would win £30 on the bet but not the £60 you might expect to receive on a normal £30 even money bet.

Free bets are not only offered as deposit bonuses. Many sites will give out free bets as part of a promotion. For example, Bet 365 will give a free bet on many soccer markets if the game ends in 0-0 draw.

Reload Bonuses or Standard Deposit Bonus

These bonuses will be available to existing members of the site. Some sites will offer these as standard, some will offer them seasonally, while others will offer bonuses to individuals via e-mail. In most cases, these reload bonuses will be smaller in size than the initial deposit bonuses. These will also be subject to a rollover.

Cash Back Bonuses

A small number of sites will offer players a percentage of their losses back on certain market types. This is particularly the case at US friendly sites for users who enjoy gambling at the race book.

Types of Online Sportsbook BonusThe Importance of Terms and Conditions

Before signing up and depositing you should always ensure that you read the terms and conditions of any bonus. This is where you’ll find out all the details of the bonus including the rollover requirement. Bonuses will also have an expiry date, meaning you’ll lose the bonus completely if failing to meet the rollover requirement in the allotted time – this amount of time will vary from site. You’ll also find conditions about the type of bets that will be allowed to contribute to bonus clearance. The majority of sites will state minimum odds you’ll have to bet at to clear the bonus, meaning you can’t wager the rollover on a series of ‘sure things’.

Rollover Requirement – Why?

As a prospective customer of a site you might find the rollover requirement a little restrictive, however it is a necessity for a sportsbook. Without a rollover requirement customers would sign up, make a deposit, claim the bonus and withdraw the entire amount – completely free money! Although this would be nice, if sites were to do this, they would all quickly go broke, and there would be no sportsbooks – so consider the rollover requirement as a necessary evil!
