Wimbledon Betting: How the Event Works
Both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments have a 128-player draw, which means that the eventual winner will need to defeat seven other players to claim victory. The men’s draw is made up of 104 direct qualifiers (based on world rankings), 8 wild card players (awarded by the Wimbledon hierarchy) and 16 qualifiers. The women’s draw features 108 direct qualifiers, 8 wild cards and 12 qualifiers.
Each of the tournaments features 32 seeded players, who will not be able to start meeting each other until at least the 3rd round. The number 1 and number 2 seeds will be in opposite sides of the draw, ensuring that they will not be able to meet each other until the final itself.
Each of the matches in the men’s singles is played over the best of 5 sets. The women’s singles are played over the best of 3 sets. In the final set, a tie break will only be played if the score reaches 12 games all in the final set.
There are also doubles events, though this page focuses on the popular singles matches.
Betting on the Wimbledon Championships 101
There is a lot of choice when it comes to placing your Wimbledon 2021 wagers. Outright tournament winner odds will change as the 2-week event progresses. Add in the individual match bets, live (in-play) betting and novelty bets, and there are plenty of opportunities to make a profit.
Wimbledon 2021: Outright Tournament Winner
You can place a wager on the outright winner of the men’s or women’s tournaments throughout much of the year. This market is at its busiest on the eve of the tournament after the draw has been set. Many people will look at the draw and use it as a guide to their betting, seeing which players have an easier route to the latter stages of the event.
As well as betting on the outright winner, you can also place a bet on a player to reach the final, the semi-final, the quarter final and more. you will also find special bets on the outright tournament, especially if a player is especially dominant. For example, when Pete Sampras was especially dominant for a while, you could wager whether he would win the tournament without dropping a set.
Wimbledon 2021: Individual Match Betting
You can place a wager on every match. On each of the match ups there will be a mix of markets available. Many of these matches will have a dominant favorite. Every year does see upsets somewhere in the draw. This is your opportunity to put your tennis knowledge to the test. Long odds are available if you get the right one.
Here are the main bets you will be able to place on every Wimbledon 2021 match:
This is a straightforward bet on which player will win the match. In the early rounds especially, you can see some very lopsided match ups with super-long odds on the underdogs.
This wager is on the exact score in the match. For example, you could wager that a close match up will be won by 3 sets to 2. These wagers offer bigger prices than the match odds.
This wager is based on the number of games each player will win in the match. The favorite will be deducted a stated number of games to make the match an even betting contest.
Total Number of Games:
The sportsbook will set a line based on the total number of games they think will be played out in the match. You wager whether the number of games will be over or under that total. If you think it’s going the distance, you will wager over, or if you think it’s going to be one-sided, you will wager under.
In-Play Tennis Betting:
All of the matches will offer live betting. The odds will constantly update based on the current match situation and is an ideal way to get involved if you start watching midway through a match. In-play betting offers a variety of different betting options, including ‘next game’ winner, an exciting short-term bet.
